ABA Compositions

Mrs. Tobiczyk’s second grade class at Highland Elementary just finished creating their own ABA songs. This is our first experience creating music in the classroom. First let me explain a little about ABA form also referred to as Ternary or Sonata form. In our songs you will hear two distinct sections, the A section begins the song and then returns at the end of the song. The B section is a new section of the song that sits between the A sections. Sometime the students chose to play different instruments for the A and B sections. Other times you will hear different rhythms, melodies, or words identifying each section. Let’s listen!

The first piece is by Alex, Jacob, John, and Rowan.

    Mrs. Wrobel-
I am so impressed with your idea for posting your students’ work! I’m currently taking a class that involves bloging. We were asked to find a project that inspired us and I chose yours. I can’t wait to try it in my own music classes. I may be back to ask you some questions about how you embedded the files. You can visit my site to see what I had to say about your project by going here:

Please tell your class I said “great job!”
